Here's one of my favorite sections!! This is a guide to all the plotholes we
could find in DB/Z/GT along with animation mistakes, inconsistincies, and incorrect
knowledge. If you find another plothole/mistake in the anime that we missed
please contact us so we can add it!
Or if you can come up with a reasonable explanation for one of the plotholes we listed to "fill in" the plothole, also e-mail us! If we find it reliable, we will add it as a possibility to explain the plothole.
Plothole: The Pilaf Saga takes place in September of 749AD.
Oolong uses the dragonballs to grant his wish. Then 8 months later after the
World Tournament, the Red Ribbon Army starts collecting the dragonballs, then
Goku uses them to wish Bora back to life. This is impossible because it hasn't
been a full year yet since the dragonballs have been used. Thus they should
still be normal stones and be impossible to use.
Counterarguement: None
Plothole: In the Dragonball anime they say that Dr. Frappe
is the creator of Android 8. In one episode Goku and Android 8 even goes to
his house to get Android 8's bomb inside of him removed. However, later in DBZ,
Trunks states that Dr. Gero is the mastermind of the Red Ribbon Army and created
all the Androids. Just another example how anime filler ends up creating a plothole.
Counterarguement: It could be possible that Dr. Frappe worked
with Dr. Gero, and even though he wasn't the true mastermind behind the Androids,
he assisted Dr. Gero in creating Android 8, perhaps as an assistant and that's
why he knew how to remove the bomb from #8 and claimed that he created him.
Plothole: In the Saiyan Saga dubbed version, Raditz tells
Goku that planet Vegeta was destroyed three years ago. However, this is incorrect.
It was destroyed the same day Goku left for Earth which was over 23 years ago.
The dub never even corrected this in the new uncut version.
Counterarguement: None
Plothole: When we first see Vegeta he has reddish/brown hair
and green armor. After he and Nappa decide to go to Earth to get the dragonballs
he goes into his spaceship and they sleep for a year while traveling to Earth.
However when he lands on Earth he now has different armor on and his hair color
changed to darkbrown/black and remains the same color through the rest of the
anime. WEIRD!
Counterarguement: Many people
say that his hair looked different because he was in a different atmosphere,
thus giving his hair the reddish tint, but I personally think it's a load of
bull.
Plothole: Piccolo is seen to have red blood when he's fighting
against Raditz. But later on and throughout the rest of the anime he has purple
blood.
Counterarguement: None
Plothole: This could be considered an animation error too,
but when Vegeta is first introduced he isn't much taller than Krillin, but during
the Namek Saga he obviously appears taller, and during the later sagas he's
even taller being about the same height as Bulma.
Counterarguement: None
Plothole: In the anime, Piccolo destroys the ship Goku came
to her with once Gohan transformed into an Oozaru from the projection of a fake
moon which made him trasform. However, later on in the series, Dr. Brief says
he used Goku's spaceship as a bases for the new Capsule Corp spaceship that
Goku uses to go to Namek with.
Counterarguement: None
Plothole: Frieza states that Saiyans can't breathe in outer
space, and it's obvious they can't. If they could Goku could have just left
Namek when it was about to be destroyed instead of frantically looking for a
spaceship. Yet, Bardock is seen in outer space when he tries to fight against
Frieza, Nappa and Vegeta are seen in outerspace when they destroy planet Arlia,
and Vegeta is seen in space again when he's training in outerspace and trying
to find Goku.
Counterarguement: Bardock, Vegeta, and Nappa were able to hold
their breath for a "long time" and thus, was able to fly in space
for a short time without the use of a space suit.
Plothole: The entire Garlic Jr. Saga is a plothole because
it tries to make a DBZ movie fit in with the anime even though it's highly inconsistant.
The Dead Zone movie takes place before the Saiyan Saga. This would mean then
that Krillin and the others had met Gohan already. Yet, in the DBZ episode when
Goku visits Roshi's house, everyone is shocked that Goku had a son.
Counterarguement: None
Plothole: In the dubbed episode when Bulma gives Vegeta the
pink shirt to wear, she tells Vegeta that she has known Goku since he was five
years old. However Goku was twelve years old when he met, not five. Funimation
never even decided to correct this mistake in the new uncut version.
Counterarguement: Bulma could have just made a simple mistake
of his age when she was talking. (People do it all the time.) Or perhaps she
just fibbed his age to be a little younger to make more emphasis of how long
she's known Goku.
Plothole: Mr. Popo states that only two people can be in the
Room of Spirit and Time at a time, yet during the Buu saga, Goten, Trunks, Piccolo,
and Super Buu are all in the chamber at once. (Not sure about the Japanese Version.)
Counterarguement: Perhaps Mr. Popo just said that to take precaution.
Maybe it's tradition that they only allow two people to go in at once, and nothing
would really happen if more than two entered, though it could be more risky.
Or simply, maybe he said that because there's only enough beds/supplies for
two people at a time.
Plothole: Vegeta states that all Saiyans have black hair,
yet when we see flashbacks of planet Vegeta some Saiyans have different colored
hair, and even Vegeta doesn't truely have black hair, his hair color is really
a dark brown, and in the Saiyan Saga he had reddish/brown hair for a brief instant.
Counterarguement: None
Plothole: In Dragonball GT, Pilaf is still alive but how could
he be? At the end of DBZ Porunga only brought back the good people of Earth
after Buu killed them all.
Counterarguement: Pilaf wasn't truelly evil. He was selfish
and wanted to be the emperor of the world, but he was never a series threat.
Plothole: Apparently their are two ways Master Roshi has eternal
life. He either got it by his pet Phoenix which died of food poisioning or he
got it from the fountain of youth. Both ways are said in the anime during seperate
occasions but it can't possibly be both so we never know which way is the actual
way he got it.
Counterarguement: None
Plothole: It is stated in the anime that Goten is 7 years
old during the Buu Saga (I'm not sure about the Japanese version) however this
would be nearly impossible because it would mean he would have been born in
767 AD, the same year the Cell Saga took place. Since the Cell Saga takes place
in late May, Chi Chi would have to have been over 3 months into her pregnancy
for Goten to be born in 767AD, yet during the Cell Saga she clearly isn't far
enough into her pregnancy since she doesn't even look pregnant yet and she doesn't
even know that she's pregnant. Also, it's most likely that Goten was conceived
during those "10 days of rest" when Goku spent a lot of time with
Chi Chi. Which means Goten was born in 768AD, making him six years old during
the Buu Saga.
Counterarguement: It is never known the gestation period for
Saiyans, so it could be possible that Goten was born in 767AD if the cycle is
shorter than that of Humans.
Plothole:This is not necessarily a plothole but WHAT is Chiaotzu
and why doesn't he age? All of the other Z Fighters age except him who appears
to be a small child throughout the entire series.
Counterarguement: Chiaotzu could have been granted eternal
life like Master Roshi, Tao, and the Crane Hermit. It could b e possible since
he trained under the Crane Hermit. He looks so young because he was granted
eternal life when he was a child, and after you are granted eternal life, you
don't age anymore. This doesn't explain though why he has white skin.
Plothole: For some reason Trunks and Goten are never seen
with tails and no one ever explains what happened to them. Either they never
had one to begin with or they were removed, OR Toriyama just forgot about the
tails.
Counterarguement: They could have never been born with tails
or they were removed when they were little like I mentioned above.
Plothole: Cell says he can regenerate as long as part of his
mind is in contact, yet when Goku uses a Kamehameha against him and destroys
his entire upper half he is still able to generate even though his head is totally
gone.
Counterarguement: None
Plothole: In the anime it says that the Saiyans adopted techonology
from another alien race that came to trade with the Saiyans. Yet in the manga
and later in the series, it states that the Saiyans adopted Tuffle technology
once they killed them all and took over the planet.
Counterarguement: It could be possible that the Saiyans adapted
to the Tuffle technology AND then met with the other alien race and learned
from their technology after they started exploring other planets.
Plothole: King Kai says that planet Vegeta was destroyed by
meteors created from the guardian of that planet because he was upset of how
the Saiyans were turning out. Later though we find out that Frieza was the one
who destroyed planet Vegeta. Even though it was a widespread theory of how the
planet was destroyed, King Kai should have known the truth since he seems to
know a lot about Frieza.
Counterarguement: Like I stated above, King Kai might have
just believed in the theory about the Guardian destroying the planet.
Plothole:For some reason when Goku and Vegeta fuse into Vegito
both have equal control over the body, yet when Kibito and Supreme Kai fuse,
Supreme Kai is the only one that speaks and he has full control over the body.
The same thing goes for Elder Kai and the witch.
Counterarguement: However this may be because Vegeta and Goku
are about equal personality and mentally wise, but Supreme Kai is much more
superior than Kibito and that's why only he has control.
Plothole: In the anime english dub, Piccolo complains that
they'll have fish again for dinner since Gohan caught another fish. This is
wrong because Piccolo only needs to drink water to survive.
Counterarguement: However, it also may imply that Piccolo is
just sick of Gohan and his family having fish for dinner all of the time maybe
because of the smell. It doesn't neccesarily mean that Piccolo was going to
eat it.
Plothole: Chi Chi forces Goku to get his driver's license
stating she doesn't have a car or has a license herself, yet she is seen in
several episodes driving a car before that. Krillin also says he doesn't have
his license after Goku abandons them in a car in the middle of a city, however
in the Garlic Jr. Saga he was seen driving a red car with Marron.
Counterarguement: Krillin could have been driving without a
license (which would have been illegal) but since he was in a rural area and
no one else was on the road he didn't mind driving, but when they were left
alone in the middle of the city, he may have been more uncomfortable driving.
Also Chi Chi was seen driving an aircraft in earlier episodes, not a car.
Plothole: In the Garlic Jr. Saga, Gohan is seen often with
Icarus. Yet, Icarus was first introduced in the Tree of Might and not from the
anime. So this is incorrect because the anime is trying to imply that the Tree
of Might actually took place but this is impossible because the Tree of Might
Movie cannot fit into the anime timeline correctly.
Counterarguement: If you don't count the movies, Gohan might
have met Icarus a different way in the anime which was never shown or touched
upon.
Plothole: How could Piccolo have destroyed the moon if it
was already destroyed by Master Roshi at the World Tournament?
Counterarguement: Kami restored the moon during the 5 year
gap between DB and DBZ and that's why he ordered Goku to remove his tail while
he was training under him. But this is never stated in the anime so someone
would have to assume this happened.
Plothole:This is not necessarily a plothole but it needs
to be addressed. It is stated numerous times in the english dub that Goku, Raditz,
Nappa, and Vegeta were the ONLY four Saiyans left in the universe? This is the
fact in the manga/anime, but yet it is highly unlikely. Just think about it.
Every day thousands of Saiyan infants were sent to weaker planets to conquer
them. If that's the case then, their should be thousands of other Saiyans like
Goku on other planets except they have their memory
Counterarguement: When Frieza was partnered up with the Saiyans,
he had all the newborn infants implanted with a device that controlled what
the Saiyans did (This could be possible since the Saiyan children knew that
they had to destroy the planets they were on. An implant in their head could
be able to control them) Frieza may have had control of the implants in their
head, and was able to kill all of the Saiyan infants out on other planets by
perhaps causing the implants in their head to explode/malfunction etc. with
a master control device. But since Goku hit his head really hard when he came
to Earth, he may have damaged the implant in his head, thus it never worked
and never killed him. This counterarguement was never stated in the anime or
manga, but it can be possible.
Plothole: Vegeta already knew that Frieza destroyed planet
Namek from the start. Yet, when Dodoria tells Vegeta that planet Vegeta was
destroyed by Frieza, Vegeta is shocked by the news like he never knew it.
Counterarguement: None
Plothole:How is it that Piccolo became fully grown after
only three years of age? Yet, Dende is a Namek as well but is still a child
three years after the Frieza Saga, and during the Buu Saga he is now a young
teenager? He isn't fully grown like Piccolo until the end of DBZ.
Counterargument: Since King Piccolo was an evil Namek, Piccolo
may have turned out to be different. (Remember how Piccolo's siblings were all
demon like except him?) Also, King Piccolo said he was going to put all of his
power into his son. Maybe since Piccolo was so powerful, he grew up faster since
he had so much strength already.
Plothole:If the Black Star Dragonballs were at Kami's Lookout
the whole entire time why haden't Bulma's radar detected them before. And why
after they are discovered and they look for them in outerspace the radar can
now magically detect them?
Counterarguement: They could have been inside of something
that didn't allow them to be detected while at Kami's Lookout.
Plothole: How is it that when Vegeta transforms into an Oozaru
all of his clothing is gone but when he becomes a Super Saiyan 4 he somehow
has all of his clothing again and now a hole convientintly placed for his tail?
The same applies for Goku
Counterarguement: None
In Movie 5, Gohan has a tail again when it was removed from Vegeta and hadn't been seen again since then in the anime.
In Movie 1, which takes place before Dragonball Z, Krillin doesn't react to seeing Gohan , yet he's surprised that Goku had a son during the episode when they meet again at Roshi's house.
In Movie 3, Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu, and Piccolo should all be dead and yet they're alive. In fact the whole timing of Movie 3 would be impossible. It obviously had to be after the Saiyans arrived because Goku is alive and Gohan is wearing his purple outfit but we all know that Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma went to Namek almost immediately after their fight with Vegeta. Goku was badly injured and shouldn't be able to fight.
In Movie 3, Turles, a Saiyan, comes to Earth, yet we all know that Raditz, Goku, Nappa, and Vegeta were the only four surviving Saiyans left.
In Movie 8, Broly and Paragus are Saiyans. This is impossible because we all know that Vegeta and Goku are the only remaining full-blooded Saiyans left.
In Movie 9 Future Trunks should have been back in his original timeline, yet he is still in the present timeline. It may be possible that he decided to revisit the present again, however it is unlikely since no one ever mentions Future Trunks ever coming back to the past again. Also, Future Trunks should have short hair since Bulma cut it again, yet he has the long hair before Bulma cut it.
In Movie 4 it is impossible for it to fit into the anime. The only place it could actually fit would be before Namek and after the Saiyan Saga, yet Goku was in the hospital badly injured during the entire gap so it's impossible for him to be completely fine in the movie. Also, Piccolo is still alive when he should be dead, and Gohan shouldn't be able to have the 4 star dragonball since the dragon was just used to wish Goku back to life.
This is not really a plothole but considering how nearly impossible it would be, it's just completely ridiculous. Somehow Piccolo gets to the New planet Vegeta to help Gohan when he is in the nick of trouble (like in every dbz movie) yet how did he get there? They never explain in the movie of how he does.
Movie 11 cannot possibly fit into the DBZ timeline. If so it would have taken place exactly the same time as Majin Buu was terroizing the world, yet in the Movie they have no reference of Majin Buu.
Movie 12 cannot also fit into the DBZ timeline. It is also supposed to take place during the same time as Majin Buu. Also, Goku was still on Earth while Vegeta was dead.
When Zarbon has a flashback with Vegeta and Frieza, Vegeta has no tail even though he should of had one because this was before the events of him going to Earth.
In the Garlic Jr. Saga, Yamcha is seen with his long pony-tail hair, yet in the same episode in the same scene, he is suddenly drawn with a short hair cut that he has when Future Trunks comes.
This is an error the occurs numerous times, but the heights of the charcters are very inconsistent. In some episodes or scenes a character will appear the same height as another character, yet in other scenes or episodes, the height difference between the same two characters may be totally different. One instance is the height of Videl. In Dragonball Z as a full grown teenager (about 16) she is pretty short.A few inches shorter than Bulma and Chi Chi. Yet at the end of DBZ and in DBGT, Videl appears to be slightly taller than Chi Chi but how is this possible? Videl couldn't have grown any more since she was already past her growing age when she was a teenager. Krillin is also a very inconsistent character when it comes to heights. In the early Dragonball Z episodes, Krillin is shown to be a a few inches taller than Gohan when he is a child. Yet during the Cell Saga episodes when Gohan is older and taller, Krillin is still drawn to be a few inches taller than Gohan but this can't be possible. Krillin shouldn't be able to grow there fore he should have been shorter or about the same height as Gohan in the Cell Saga, not taller. Ox-king also seems to have gotten significantlly smaller in Dragonball Z compared to his size and height in Dragonball episodes.Vegeta has seemed to get taller thoughout DBZ when it's impossible. These are just a few height inconsistancies but there are a bunch more in the anime.
In Dragonball, when Bulma is wearing her bunny outfit, her outfit somehow changes inbetween scenes. In some scenes she will be wearing dark blue stockings and other scenes she will be wearing no stockings at all.
During the Frieza Saga, Krillin, for a few frames, is seen wearing his Turtle Gi outfit when he should be wearing his Saiyan armor Vegeta gave him.
During on Namek, Vegeta is drawn with his old Saiyan Style armor with the shoulderblades for a few frames when he should be wearing his newer styled armor.
Throughout Dragonball and Dragonball Z characters are drawn with a tooth missing yet later on they are drawn with all of their teeth. An example is Yamcha when Goku knocks his tooth out. For a while he is drawn with one tooth missing, but later on he is drawn with a full set of teeth. Krillin is also seen with one tooth missing but in other seens he has all of his teeth.
